K984

Born in Hawaii and raised in Los Angeles, K984 hails from the LA underground Graffiti scene. Active since the late 1980s, he is a member of Los Angeles’ graffiti crew Create to Devastate along side Rakaa Iriscience (Dilated Peoples), legendary DJ Rob One (Zulu Nation), Black Silver (Analog Bros.), sk8 and Mear One (wca) amongst others.

K984’s musical roots in 90s boom bap hip-hop and hardcore metal leads to unique productions what he himself calls “Modern Pagan Music” teaming with psychedelic textures and computer manipulated samples. In his painterly take on music, he combines traditional melodies with atmospheric drone vocals, instrumentals and rapping, creating a dark, industrial brooding soundscape emphasized by discordant, clank hip-hop beats, piercing sound effects and haunting vocals originated in Baltic ancient folk music.

K984’s passion in painting guerrilla murals gained him a spot at the California Institute of Arts and the University of the Arts in Berlin, where he studied film making, music and fine arts. One of K984’s biggest success came as early as 1993 when he painted what was probably the first Graffiti Burner in his mother’s parents home country, Lithuania, where he later spent several years.

As a founding member of Killradio.org, an anti-corporate internet radio station in Hollywood, K984 ran the radio station together with 13 other Djs. He broadcasted the show: Radio Fungal Kingdom and the 13th Dimension for 5 years from 2000 onwards. A weekly radio show presenting world wide underground music from extreme metal, underground hiphop to folk and indigenous music…

K984 first appeared on the Ex-Vandalz EP Industry Standard (2005) and the album Graffiti Brydge (Docile Takeover Vol. 1) (2007) on such graffiti anthems as Create 2 Devastate (feat. Rakaa Iriscience and Black Silver) and Style Messiahs (feat. Mek One, Dee Skee and Perk). Since then, he produced and released two solo albums: Urban Jungle Green Vol. 1 & Vol. 2.
